They say to become an expert in any field, you must dedicate 10,000 hours to your chosen craft in order to reach this milestone, and by using this as the yardstick, Jaron Jay has achieved this title many times over. As a songwriter, performer and musician - Jaron is without equal in his dedication to the craft.
Inspired by a melting pot of influences, from The Beatles, Rufus Wainwright, Eminem, Theo Katzman and Michael Jackson, to Yellowjackets, Prince, Flyte, Usher, Vulfpeck, Mark Ronson, Stevie Wonder, Metallica, Parkway Drive and System Of A Down, Jaron’s work highlights his seemingly effortless grasp of musical genres, spanning rock, soul, jazz, funk, and pop, giving his songs an air of familiarity, but with an edge that could only be described as uniquely ‘Jaron’.
Since wielding his first axe 15 years ago, to his debut-releases (Hour After Drop and Stitch Up), Jaron Jay has built a stellar reputation, known as one of the most in-demand multi-instrumentalists, composers, audio engineers and producers in Melbourne. Jaron’s reputation was built on the foundation of years working in studios across Melbourne and Europe (2016-2019) where he lived, toured, wrote and recorded with seven-piece band “LAMA” and later, “Other Animals”, making Jaron no stranger to the collaborative process, harnessing the intricacies of writing, producing and recording music as part of an ensemble. They say to be great, surround yourself with greatness; which is a privilege that Jaron was fortunate enough to experience firsthand, whilst working alongside revered writer, arranger and engineer, Matt Butler, for the “Other Animals’ record. Butler has worked alongside the likes of Paul McCartney, Dire Straits, Mick Jagger, Pink Floyd and Phil Collins, who are undoubtedly some of the greats of the musical world and stepping stones of inspiration for Jaron’s own journey.
Over the span of the 2020-2021 lockdowns, Jaron took it upon himself (with the help of his partner Libby) to shoot and edit a series of mini music videos which featured music both originally-written and covered. These videos garnered Jaron quite a following, and attention from some heavy-hitters in the music industry such as Queen and Jacob Collier, who commented on and shared his videos. Throughout this time, Jaron also met, befriended and collaborated with Adam Meckler (Paul Peterson, Cory Wong, Hornheadz), who co-composed horns for one of Jaron’s tracks, as well as plugged him into a vast and valuable network of US musicians.
If you had asked Jaron 3 years ago if he believed he would be in close contact with one of his most idolised musical heroes, Bob Mintzer (Yellowjackets, Weather Report, Randy Brecker, Michael Brecker, Steely Dan, Queen), he’d have never believed you… but to Jaron’s absolute delight, this 2021 collaboration with the awe-inspiring saxophonist was no fever dream. Taking this incredibly insane connection beyond the valley of insanity, Mintzer lent his extensive talents to not only one original song of Jaron’s, “Catapult”, but also tracks “Smooth Jam” and “Down Easy”…a true honor for Jaron and a massive career highlight.
A natural talent and ear, whose musicality has a genuine leadership quality to it, Jaron’s talent improves those around him. Anyone lucky enough to have collaborated with him; be it playing live, writing original music, having been produced by him, or working with him in the studio, has seen first hand his unique abilities and talent that truly drive you to want to be better, and with Jaron Jay on your train, quite simply, you are.
Jaron’s experience extends far beyond his solo and band compositions, as incredibly, he has also found the time to lend his prowess to the world of advertising, composing original pieces for the likes of Oppo, Puma, Nissan, Casillero Del Diablo, Lee Jeans, Kirin, Visa, Cisco, Huawei, Kose, Bridgestone, Uniqlo, Nippon Steel, Adidas, Maxwell House, Dell, Bose, L’Oreal, Oreo, Sheseido, McDonalds, BMW, Google, Facebook, Volkswagen, Vivo, Levis, Toyota, Infiniti, Asahi, Mizone, Honda, Union Pay, Hornbach, Bose, Asics, Tohknet and UberEats - giants of the corporate world.
